Upcoming Pipeline Maintenance Work – Glenwood Drive Area
As part of Energy Transfer’s ongoing pipeline integrity and management program, we routinely run in-line inspection (ILI) tools through our pipelines to ensure they remain safe for continued operation.
As you may know, we recently ran several ILI tools through our 14-inch Twin Oaks to Newark pipeline. The tool run identified a site for excavation to investigate the pipeline in the Mt. Eyre neighborhood, near Glenwood Drive. The site was not flagged as an immediate concern and does not pose any threat to public safety. The pipeline continues to operate safely, and anomaly digs are a routine part of pipeline integrity designed to prevent potential issues.
“Anomaly” is a technical term defined by American Petroleum Institute Standard 1163 In-Line Inspection Systems Qualifications (“API 1163”), which is a standard adopted by PHMSA. Under API 1163 “anomaly” is defined as a “possible unexplained deviations from the norm in sound pipe material, coatings, or welds,” and a “feature” is defined as “any physical object detected by an ILI system.” The term anomaly does not mean that there is a condition that is a critical threat to the safety or integrity of the pipeline or that the pipeline is leaking. For more information about types of integrity digs, please refer to our Aug. 8 letter sent to Upper Makefield Township.
Our third-party contractor, Otis Eastern, is scheduled to mobilize to our easement near 129 Glenwood Drive on Monday, Sept. 29. Once on site, the crew will:
- Excavate the area above the pipeline
- Remove the protective coating
- Inspect the pipeline
- Perform any necessary maintenance
The excavation area will be approximately 15 feet by 10 feet. After the work is completed, the site will be backfilled and restored to its original condition. We expect the work to take approximately four to five days, barring unexpected delays.
Work will take place between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. At the end of each workday, the site will be secured with construction fencing. For your safety, we kindly ask residents to avoid entering the work zone.
